Shortly after turning 30, I became single for the first time in over ten years. For some reason, I found myself drinking in dive bars pretty often. Some nights I went to enjoy the freedom of having new experiences and other nights I went to cope with the loneliness. I never wanted to stay too long in one place. Anonymity was key. So some nights I would go to several dive bars; sometimes alone, sometimes with a chaperon. “Dive bar hoping” became “drinking and diving,” and the inspiration for this blog.

Updated PS: To be clear, I do not condone drinking and driving a vehicle or binge drinking alcohol in general. Drink what you want where you want to, keeping yourself and others safe and healthy. I’ve aged some and thought about changing my site name to match my life now 5 years later; But I appreciate the roots and I’m a sucker for nostalgia. Though the drinks have changed and so have the dives, the name still remains. Thank you to anyone that takes the time to read this and especially those who comment.
